Geolocation Firm Cuebiq Leverages Panel of 50 million

The value of geolocation data to the investment management industry is based, in large part, on the breadth, frequency, and accuracy of this data in identifying where consumers are spending their time – and hopefully purchasing products and services.  A new firm called Cuebiq has recently started marketing extremely accurate geolocation data to buy-side investors, gathered from a panel of over 50 million active monthly users based on partnerships with over 160 mobile apps.

General Background on Cuebiq

Launched in the USA during 2016, New York-based Cuebiq is a mobile location intelligence company that enables clients to glean actionable insights about consumer behaviors and trends.  In just one year, Cuebiq has been able to secure a large number of customers in the advertising, retail, and financial services industries.

Antonio Tomarchio, the CEO and founder of Cuebiq, believes 2017 will be even better, “Cuebiq represents the future of business intelligence. Through our data, we allow companies of all sizes to gain unparalleled insights in real-time about real-world consumer behaviors and trends. Leveraging our global leadership position in geo-behavioral data, we are giving the market a new way to think about business intelligence.”

Using Cuebiq’s data, an investment analyst can obtain an extremely accurate picture of the traffic patterns of over 50 mln consumers, including which establishments they visited, how long they stayed in each store, and even which parts of a specific retailer they spent most time in.  Consequently, investors can use this data to help them better estimate top line revenue for retailers, restaurants, and other consumer driven chains.

What does Cuebiq do?  Outline the data items a customer can receive from you?

Cuebiq is a location intelligence company. Their innovative platform leverages massive, highly accurate mobile location data to deliver actionable insights about real-world consumers and trends. Cuebiq has developed partnerships with over 160 mobile apps and analyzes offline behavior and footfall through their proprietary data methodology, which includes mobile users’ proximity signals, frequency and dwell time.

Cuebiq analyzes a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi, and beacon signals when collecting mobile user data, and only analyzes data from users who have accepted to share their location data with Cuebiq’s partner apps. Thanks to that, the firm boasts a panel of more than 50 million active monthly users, representing 1 in 4 smartphones in the U.S. who have opted in to share anonymous and aggregated location data.  As a member of the advertising industry’s privacy watch group The Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), Cuebiq ensures that all the data it collects meets NAI’s specific privacy regulations and that users’ personally identifiable information is kept out of their data collection pool.

With the most accurate data collection methodology at scale, Cuebiq’s data provides the best-in-class solution to address an asset manager’s specific investment strategy. Their products provide real-time analytics that can serve as a real-time proxy for measuring site, store or brand performance.

Who is Cuebiq’s target market?

Cuebiq’s data can be applied to multiple industry needs, but its target market in the financial services vertical includes hedge funds, mutual funds, quantitative funds and private equity firms. Cuebiq believes that the use of location intelligence and big data analysis can provide their prospective clients with a brand-new way to differentiate and establish a competitive advantage in their respective markets.

Who are some of Cuebiq’s chief competitors?

Cuebiq sees Foursquare as its main competitor. However, Cuebiq’s reach and scale across their 160+ mobile app partners greatly outmatches the competition. In the U.S. alone, Cuebiq reaches over 50MM+ unique devices. Their high quality data, accuracy, precision and scale sets them apart in the geolocation space.  Their intelligence platform currently collects an average of more than 150 different location data points per day/user with 80% accuracy below or equal to 10 meters or 30 feet.

What makes Cuebiq different from other firms in the same space?

Cuebiq is unique in that their location data is extremely precise and accurate.  Their ability to analyze how often users visit specific points of interest and how much time they spend at each location ensures that their data gives clients accurate insight into consumers’ offline behavior and purchase intent. Cuebiq’s intelligence platform analyzes a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and beacon signals when collecting mobile user data, granting them the ability to identify user patterns in high density urban contexts and even inside stores or desired points of interest.

Who are a few cornerstone clients in the financial services market that use you?  How do they generally use your platform?

Cuebiq does not provide information about their specific clients.  However, they are currently working with a handful of clients in the financial services industry, and they are planning to limit the number of partners who can access their entire data feed.

What is Cuebiq’s commercial model?  What is the price range for your service?

Currently Cuebiq charges investor clients for access their data based on two models.  This includes a limited number of enterprise-wide licenses allowing buy-side clients access to all of Cuebiq’s geolocation data.  In addition, Cuebiq enables clients to purchase their InsightQ Visit Intelligence reports on a ticker-by-ticker basis.

What are a few of Cuebiq’s next major targets/milestones?

Cuebiq’s target is to work with a larger number of clients to provide innovative and high quality location data to the financial services industry.  They believe location intelligence is the missing link between different data sets. Later in 2017, Cuebiq will be launching a SaaS platform for clients in the financial industry. They believe this will make financial data even more accessible and give non-technical professionals the ability to visualize & enhance their investment strategies using Cuebiq data.
