Liquidnet, the New York-based institutional trading network, recently announced the appointment of Vicky Sanders as Global Head of Investment Analytics. The new business will run alongside Liquidnet’s existing equity execution and fixed-income businesses.
Sanders Gets Nod for New Role
Vicky Sanders, former co-founder of research marketplace RSRCHXchange, was recently selected to become Liquidnet’s newly created Global Head of Investment Analytics (IA). The new business will house Liquidnet’s recent acquisitions OTAS Technologies, Prattle and research aggregator RSRCHXchange.
This new division is also slated to launch its first new product later this year – the IA App. This app leverages the artificial intelligence and research distribution capabilities of the recently acquired firms, and is designed to support information discovery and decision making for institutional investment teams.
Brian Conroy, President at Liquidnet commented on the announcement, “Since joining us last year, Vicky has been instrumental in helping us bring to life our vision for Liquidnet IA. We look forward to all that she will accomplish as we get closer to launching the new Investment Analytics app later this year.”
“I am thrilled to have been appointed to lead Liquidnet’s new IA business,” said Sanders. “Liquidnet has always been a Fintech leader and at the forefront of innovation in capital markets. Liquidnet IA will be dedicated to empowering asset managers with a personalized and customizable research and intelligence platform, leading to enhanced performance.”
Culmination of Recent Acquisitions
The establishment of Liquidnet’s Investment Analytics (IA) group is the culmination of its three most recent acquisitions geared to expand Liquidnet’s business outside of the buy-side trading community.
In May 2017, Liquidnet acquired artificial intelligence powered buy-side decision support and analytics provider OTAS Technologies. This led the firm to launch Liquidnet Discovery in 2018, which provides AI-driven pattern recognition trading analytics.
In May, 2019 Liquidnet took the second step in its recent acquisition spree by purchasing research aggregator RSRCHXchange for an undisclosed sum. Liquidnet hailed the acquisition as bringing “the worlds of investment research and alternative data together in a fundamentally new approach to alpha creation.” Vicky Sanders was a co-founder of RSRCHXchange.
A mere three weeks later, Liquidnet acquired sentiment analysis provider Prattle in an effort to increase its AI and alternative data offerings. Liquidnet President Brian Conroy, explained the strategic rationale of this acquisition in an interview with Integrity Research, “Prattle helps our members solve the key challenge of generating alpha with critical new alternative data tools and AI processes.”
It is clear that over the past few years, Liquidnet has been planning to expand its business outside of the trading arena – first by offering their trading clients more analytics tools, and then by leveraging a wide range of research, alternative data and AI capabilities to help PMs and analysts more consistently generate alpha.
The naming of Vicky Sanders to run Liquidnet’s new Investment Analytics group makes considerable sense given her years of experience working with buy-side clients resulting from her career in sell-side and independent investment research and analytics sales at RSRCHXchange, Marex Spectron and Goldman Sachs.
The key questions for Ms. Sanders and her IA colleagues is exactly how to convince potential research and alternative data providers to partner with them, what “must have” solutions they believe they can develop, and how best to commercialize these opportunities. It will be exciting to watch Liquidnet’s upcoming product development initiatives and future acquisitions as it looks to implement this aggressive new vision.
