A New Vertical at Vertical


New York – Vertical Research Partners, a fundamental research shop, has only been around for about one year, but has managed to gain a good deal of traction in that short period of time. Jeff Sprague and Nicole Parent founded Vertical Research in 2010. Jeff Sprague runs the research operations, while Nicole Parent runs the sales side of the business.

Vertical Research is well known in the industrials sector, but with the announced the addition of two new analysts this past Monday, adding the paper and packaging industry to Vertical’s industry offerings, and bringing the headcount at the firms to 13 people. The new analysts are Chip Dillon and James Armstrong.

Chip Dillon is joining the firm as a partner, has been a top-rated analyst in paper and packaging eight times in the Institutional Investor poll, has been named to the Wall Street Journal “Hall of Fame”, and was top analyst in the 2010 WSJ “Best on the Street” ranking.

James Armstrong has worked with Chip at both Credit Suisse and Citigroup and will be covering the global paper and packaging industry. James has a Masters degree in physics from Auburn and an MBA from Ohio State.

Including the new hires Vertical Research has 9 analysts, covering the electrical equipment/multi-industry sector, oil field equipment and offshore contract drilling, and paper and packaging. They have two institutional salespeople and an operations and compliance professional.  The addition of paper and packaging increases the economic sector coverage to industrials and materials.
