AlternativeData.org Launches Enhanced Website & Alt Data Directory

Today, AlternativeData.org, the free website providing information, insights and resources for the alternative data industry, is launching a new website with an enhanced user interface and increased functionality for its directory of alternative data providers.

Website Enhancements

A few of the major enhancements to the new and improved AlternativeData.org site include:

UX/UI Improvements – The website has been redesigned to help users better navigate the site and to improve content discovery across the site.

Getting Started page – This new entryway into the website provides users with a one-stop-shop overview of the alternative data industry.

Search Feature – The website now includes a cross-website search feature that enables users to search across all the content excluding events.

Category Filters on the Database – This new feature enables users of the site to filter and find data providers, tools & services much faster based on various criteria selected.

Full Data Provider Profiles – Users can now access a much richer set of information on each alternative data, tool, and service provider, including key information on the number of customers, data delivery methods, customer focus, and many other custom sections.

Our Take

The new AlternativeData.org website is a great improvement over the previous iteration.  Clearly the user interface has been streamlined and various other features have made navigation of the site a more pleasant user experience.  However, in our minds, the most significant enhancements to the new site are the more robust vendor profiles and the granular category filters for the directory.

Clearly AlternativeData.org has developed a strong brand and has established its usefulness to the entire alternative data industry.  The big question we have is how YipitData – the major sponsor of the site – plans to commercially benefit it.  Up until now, AlternativeData.org has been a tremendous resource to the alternative data vendor and buyer community.  However, the costs of maintaining the site, researching new vendors, and generating new content are not inconsequential.  Consequently, we wonder if or when YipitData will finally decide to implement a business model that can support and enhance this website.
