CAPIS and Zelman Team Up

New York – Yesterday, Capital Institutional Services (CAPIS) announced that it had added Zelman & Associates to it Alliance platform.  CAPIS’s Alliance offers a number of research products, from broad based platforms to sector specialists, channel check services, corporate access and bespoke research providers.

Started by veteran sell-side analyst, Ivy Zelman in 2007, Zelman & Associates specializes in deep-dive fundamental analysis of the housing sector, utilizing proprietary surveys covering the sectors that affect the building products, homebuilding, homecenter and mortgage banking industries. Ivy Zelman has been a top ranked analyst in this space for over 15 years.  Zelman & Associates covers 23 stocks, including valuation and forecasting models for these tickers. The firm has 7 research professionals .

Dallas-based CAPIS is an agency broker founded in 1977 by Don Potts. The firm has three main verticals including global execution, Independent research and Compliance.  CAPIS has more than 1400 institutional clients and has 115 employees worldwide.

The Alliance service is the research and sales vertical of the CAPIS businesses and has been in operation for 7 years.  Zelman & Associates will bring the number of research partners on the Alliance platform to nine. The other providers include: Morningstar, Jet Investment Research, Moss Creek Capital, TrendMacrolytics, Probe Financial Associates, Farmhouse Equity Research, Rate Financials and Vivid Research. Of course, beyond the quality of the research offering, the most important element in the success of any research sales and distribution platform is sales.  CAPIS has 15 salespeople, 6 of whom are research sales specialists (along with another 6 sales assistants).

The other aspect of the relationship between Alliance and the research provider—beyond sales and marketing—is the establishment of clear criteria so that both Alliance and the research provider have clear metrics to gauge their success. These metrics include some financial metrics and also client introduction metrics to ensure that the research provider is getting in front of CAPIS’s institutional clients.

The addition of Zelman to the Alliance platform appears to be a major min for both parties.
