New York – Gerson Lehrman Group announced today it has acquired TGR Research, a Paris-based expert network focusing on continental Europe. Terms were not disclosed. While it is surprising that GLG has acquired another expert network, it speaks to the importance of international expansion to GLG’s strategy.
TGR Research was founded in 2007 by Axel Ronteix, a former S&P employee familiar with Vista Research’s business, Sébastien Gogé, a lawyer, and Antoine Tartiere, a marketing expert. The firm is primarily focused on French-speaking portions of Europe, including France, Switzerland and Benelux, providing access to 8,500 experts.
The firm covers all industries but is particularly strong in energy, luxury goods, cosmetics, biotech, retail, and aerospace. After initial success with corporations and consulting firms, TGR has expanded its client base to include mutual funds, hedge funds and private equity firms. It has 30 French clients, which are the majority of its client base. The firm currently has 10 employees.
TGR Research was Runner Up as a European specialist in Integrity’s 2008 ResearchFocusSM report on Expert Networks. TGR scored highly on our measures of sourcing and matching, and was uniquely positioned to offer access to a broad range of local-language experts in France and French-speaking Europe.
GLG & TGR
With the acquisition of TGR, GLG has purchased a fully staffed Paris office. France is a notoriously difficult market to crack, especially for firms not based there. Through the acquisition, GLG gets access to an established network, an existing client base and trained staff.
GLG has been aggressively expanding its non-U.S. presence. Asia was one of its first priorities with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and New Delhi. In Europe, it opened a London office in 2004, Zurich in 2008 and Dublin in 2009. Now, through TGR it has a Paris office.
