FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Independents’ Day 2009: The future of the Financial Services Industry Globally
Long awaited IBM Institute for Business Value Study to be unveiled in April
———————————————————————————————————
New York, NY, March 30, 2009 – One of the highlights at the April 8th‘ Fifth Annual Independents’ Day Research Conference, to be held at the Bloomberg Headquarters and conference complex in New York City in NYC, will be a detailed preview of the recently completed 18 month research study, conducted by the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV), on the future of the financial services industry globally.
“At a time when the financial service industry is facing the most significant changes since the last depression, this timely research study should be of great interest to every investment manager, director of research, portfolio manager, and indeed any asset manager tasked with strategic planning” said Patrick Shea, Executive Director of the Investorside Research Association. In addition to detailed financial projections of the domestic and global markets going forward, the IBM study examines how regulatory change, commoditization, client expectations and other factors will change the competitive landscape.
“Only an organization with the size, breath and resources of IBM could undertake and complete a project of this magnitude”, said Shea “and even then it took 18 months instead of the 12 months normally devoted to projects of this type.” The IBM IBV employs over 60 researchers throughout the globe who conducted thousands of interviews with all the major industry players, examining every aspect of the industry. Researchers sought answers to the most fundamental questions faced by strategic planners; including how and why firms must redesign their organizations to remain competitive in the new environment.
The IBM IBV has shared its previous research studies with over 5,000 executives throughout the world, including those from such firms such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, UBS, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Barclays, JPMC, Citigroup, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, State Street, Fidelity, UTI Asset Management, Development Bank of Singapore, China Construction Bank, Kuwait Investment Authority, Temasek, NYSE, LSE, among many others
Independents’ Day 2009 will also feature four panels, ten case study presentations and guest speakers including Charles Gasparino, CNBC on air editor and noted author. Panel discussions will cover topics including the future of credit research, expert networks and research management, in addition to a panel focusing on regulatory changes anticipated in the wake of unprecedented market conditions. The conference will feature contributions from over forty content providers representing a variety of investment managers, independent research providers and professional organizations including Bloomberg, Knight, Integrity Research Associates, Argus Research, Majestic Research, RiskMetrics, Business Intelligence Advisors (BIA), OTR Global, New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA), and the SEC Division of Trading and Markets.
Independents’ Day provides a forum for “certified” independent research providers to showcase cutting edge research techniques and methodologies in addition to case studies demonstrating the effectiveness of their proprietary research. It is anticipated that several Independents’ Day 2009 case studies are likely to be nominated for awards later this year at the Annual Investorside Members Day conference. Last year’s award winners included firms that uncovered the pending subprime debacle well before it was discovered, in one case, as early at 2005.
