New York – Investorside Research Association announced Dr. Harald D. Malmgren, an internationally recognized expert on world trade and investment flows who has worked with four U.S. presidents, will be featured in a fireside chat at its annual Members Day. The event is being held February 3 at the Metropolitan Club in Washington, D.C.
Malmgren is owner of Malmgren Global, providing research and advisory services to investors. He is also currently the chairman of the Cordell Hull Institute in Washington, a private, not-for-profit “think tank” which he co-founded with Lawrence Eagleburger, former U.S. secretary of state. His extensive personal global network among governments, central banks, financial institutions, and corporations provides a highly informed basis for his assessments of global markets.
Richard Leggett, chairman of Investorside, will interview Malmgren in the chat format. Malmgren’s perspectives on the global financial markets touch on a myriad of aspects including trade, risk and the current state of the U.S. dollar. Educated at Yale and Oxford he served under President Kennedy as an adviser to the secretary of defense. President Johnson brought him to the office of the U.S. Trade Representative where he was assigned major international negotiating responsibility. Following the Johnson presidency he became research director at the Overseas Development Council and also special adviser to the Senate Finance Committee and to the Secretary General of the OECD. President Nixon personally asked him to return to government service as White House adviser on international economic policy, and subsequently appointed him Deputy U.S. Trade Representative with the rank of ambassador, to direct all U.S. trade negotiations with all nations.
He later authored International Economic Peacekeeping, a guide for negotiations on trade liberalization during the 1970s and 1980s. Since 1977 he has been adviser and strategist for international corporations, banks, investment banks, and sovereign wealth funds. He has also advised finance ministers and prime ministers of a number of governments around the world. Over the years, he has continued writing on economics, markets, and public policy.
Investorside Research Association seeks to increase investor and pensioner trust in the U.S. capital markets system through the promotion and use of investment research that is financially aligned with investor interests. The organization has approximately 100 members involved in the daily activities of analyzing and reporting on publicly-held companies.
