In 2002 there were four co-heads of U.S. equity research at Credit Suisse First Boston. Jim Clark, Diane Schumaker-Kreig, John Hervey and Jack Kirnan. All four shared the spotlight last week. Jim Clark recently left CSFB for Sound Shore Management, an investment advisory firm that manages $3.7 billion. Chris Carpmael, a top marketing analyst in the firm’s London office, replaces him and will work alongside Schumaker-Kreig. CSFB analysts spoke of Carpmael’s ascendancy as early as three months ago, but the official word at the time had been one of denial. Former Clark co-head of U.S. research-Jack Kirnan-has landed at Schwab-Soundview Capital Markets (SSCM) after leaving CSFB in the fall. It is unclear whether he had previously been applying for a role at SSCM, but regardless he now rejoins his former co-chief John Hervey, who has been at Soundview since July 2002. Kirnan will serve as a client relationship strategist.
