New York – On November 16th, the Investorside Research Association will be holding its Members Day conference at the Cornell Club. Investorside is a non-profit trade association of investment research providers that do not engage in investment banking, company consulting or research-for-hire, and constitute some of the leading alternative research firms in the world.
Members Day is open to members and non-members that have been invited by a member. The conference covers a full day of topics relevant to the research, including payment model issues, PR and marketing resources, new Investorside partnerships and other topics.
One of the more interesting aspects of the get together is that the key note speaker will be Elliot Spitzer. Investorside and Elliot Spitzer have crossed paths before. Several years ago, when the Global Research Settlement had been newly implemented, Mr. Spitzer spoke to the membership about the concerns regarding investment bank research and the conflicts that arise by combining research and deal making under the same roof that led to the settlement.
In fact, Investorside was created in order to provide non-conflicted and unbiased research to clients and to support the cause of alternative research.
Spitzer’s speech is entitled “Perspectives on the Independent Research Industry”. Now that the Global Research Settlement is largely behind us, it will be interesting to have a retrospective on the successes and failures of the settlement from Mr. Spitzer’s point of view.
